It is in man's nature to balk at being told what to do. On the surface, the Torah looks like nothing more that a huge list of things (613 things, to be exact) that Hashem has told man that he may or may not do. So, it's understandable why so many want to believe that Hashem has changed and no longer requires us to pay attention to all of the Torah's "to-do's and not-to-do's."
Acts 10 is commonly used to "prove" that Hashem has done away with the dietary laws laid down in Lev 11. Why? Well, IMHO, it is because the carnal (fleshly minded) man will do ANYTHING to justify his not having to do what Hashem has commanded him.
So, if Hashem was not explaining to Peter why he could ignore the dietary laws, what was He trying to show Peter?
