Psalm 119 = love fest for the law = a gift/treasure

Psalm 119

1 [1] Blessed are they whose ways are blameless,
who walk according to the law of the LORD .
2 Blessed are they who keep his statutes
and seek him with all their heart.
3 They do nothing wrong;
they walk in his ways.
4 You have laid down precepts
that are to be fully obeyed.
5 Oh, that my ways were steadfast
in obeying your decrees!
6 Then I would not be put to shame
when I consider all your commands.
7 I will praise you with an upright heart
as I learn your righteous laws.
8 I will obey your decrees;

Greetings ATAT and Japheth,

Truely the Torah was a gift.

Why in your opinion did The Father command things the way he did? Why did he decide that Wool and Linen (I think that's right) should not be worn together? Or why does touching a dead person redure one impure...and what the big deal about the seventh day?

What do you believe the reasons are for making the commandments the way he did? Why not just have us jump up and down and squak like a bird?

Is it true that the word law does not do the heb word Torah justice? I have heard that the word Torah means teaching and instruction. Whenever God gives teaching and instruction it truly is a gift. Also when Tanack says to obey his commandment, there is a blessing and a curse. The blessing if we do obey, and The curse if we do not obey.

Deu 11:27 A blessing, if ye obey (hear) the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day:
Deu 11:28 And a curse, if ye will not obey (hear) the commandments of the LORD your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which ye have not known.

I have noticed that the word "obey" is not a proper translation. The word that is translated obey is really the heb word which means (to hear intently). Perhaps if we can hear intently what God is telling us through his teachings and instructions we will have his blessing, versus his curse, for not listening intently. At least that is what these verses seem to be saying to me. There is a verse in the New Test that says faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Is it possible that if we can learn to hear intently God's teaching and instructions, these would become his word to our heart, in order that the faith of Abraham would be formed in our hearts, thus pleasing God for faith pleases him and brings his blessing.

Here is another point I would like to make.
Deu 27:10 Thou shalt therefore obey (hear) the voice of the LORD thy God, and do (work to accomplish) his commandments and his statutes, which I command thee this day.

The word do in this verse, when I look at the strongs concordence it appears that this word could be translated to accomplish or to work to accomplish. In this light if I fail to do his commandments there is implied grace within the verse, if my heart is right in working to keep them with all my heart. In this light they would not be to difficult, they would be within our grasp.

The law provides us a way to serve God with our entire lives.

I, personally, like being able to serve God with how I eat, how I dress, how I treat my wife, and a whole spectrum of ways to connect to God.

God commands Jews not to eat eel.

I wouldn't dream of eating eel, it's a worm, a sea worm.

But, we get an infinity of reward for avoiding that eel.

That's why the Torah = Laws are a gift.

God gives us a connection to Him.

Two men walk in to see the Boss.

The Boss hands them both a $10,000 dollar check.

One walks out with a touch of shame, the other walks out without that touch of shame.

The first didn't do anything for the $10,000 dollars.

The second followed a simple instruction.

Both were over-paid, both recognize they didn't DESERVE the $10,000.

But God gave the gift of connection to the one He commanded.

Now, re-read the above and replace '$10,000' with 'Connection and love to and from our Creator.'

Suppose someone you really admired met you on the street.

Would you prefer he ask you to serve him or not?

Ifa great and good leader of a large country by chance knocked on your door and asked to use your phone, so he could mediate a peace deal, which actually succeeds, wouldn't you have been delighted to have been the one to loan him your cell phone?

Suppose that it saved the lives of over a million people?

Would you have preferred that it cost you more or less effort and money to help?

In such a case, I would have rather that it cost me full price for the use of MY cell phone, at peak rates.

I'd treasure the invoice as a token of a great opportunity.

Even if I didn't get recognition and Even if I were never reimbursed.

I'd be delighted to have taken part in that.

I am delighted to have the great honor to take part in this, even if there is nothing beyond. (There is beyond, but you get my point. We both would save the million lives even if no one ever knew, and even if we got nothing from it. We'd be absolutely delighted for the rest of our lives. No question.)

Frankly, I'm not worthy of it, I don't deserve being a part of this, I'm still surprised I've been granted the privalage to be commanded in God's Laws.

I hope that at least illustrates how we see the laws.
