  • Messiah and the blowing of the trumpets...

It is my understanding that the Jewish holiday of the "Feast of Trumpets" (Rosh Hashana) is just around the corner. Now would be a good time to disuss what this has to do with Messiah, and what it has to do with us.

Take a look at 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17. Is Rosh Hashana a "type and a shadow" of the coming of the L-rd?

    Very good, Matthew.

Yes, the Feast of Trumpets is a picture of Y'shua's return. We will be watching for the new moon this Friday. If we don't see it, then Saturday. When the moon is sighted, Rosh Hashanah, the High Sabbath will be upon us. We don't know the day or the hour, but we do have a general idea of when it will be sighted. And, since we do not buy or sell on the Sabbath, we must be prepared. It is a blessing to have been given such a lesson to experience every year.

So, there could be two Sabbath days back to back, right?

Yes. The seven annual High Sabbaths can fall on any day of the week.

Too cloudy to see anything tonight. If someone else has seen it, how do you know that the Sabbath has begun?

            Communication.

Two thousand years ago, the Jews would light signal fires on the tops of mountains to announce the new moon.
