  • Why Gold, Frankincense & Myrrh ?

Believing that EVERYTHING in the Bible has significance, even the slightest tidbit of information, why do you think that Yeshua was presented with gold, frankincense, & myrrh by the maggi? Why those three particular items?

I am going to "string some pearls," i.e., look at EVERY verse in TaNaKh that has those three words in it, and see .... well, see what I see. I'll report back on my findings, but I'd like to hear what others have to say.

I am really lacking of any insight into these three ingredients. I believe that the traditional view is that these were the kinds of gifts given to royalty by visiting emissaries, but I often feel that the popular view of any religious doctrine is suspect.

I'd be interested in knowing what you find.
Pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the [messiah] out of a pure heart. (II Tim 2:22)

      Hello all:

I too, out of curiosity, have pondered the gifts presented to the Messiah. The following are my conclusions, which aren't so much biblically based, but extracted from possibilities in scripture and a study of essential oils.

Frankincense and Myrrh are essential oils that are rare and expensive even today. There are about 15 oils mentioned in the scriptures and a few today are becoming aware of the INCREDIBLE HEALING QUALITIES of them. I have heard testimonies of powerful healing qualities contained in them.

What better gift from a "wise man" to ensure a strong, active, immune system in a baby, than to present his parents with these invaluable oils?

Mary and Joseph were young and not very wealthy. This is apparent by her sacrificing a dove instead of a sheep at the time of her purification. The "wise men from the east" presented them with gold just prior to Herod's decree to kill the firstborn. This gold enabled them to flee to Egypt and still be able to survive financially.

I believe this gold was saved by DANIEL. Daniel knew the exact time of the Messiah's arrival. Daniel was also the Second in Command of the whole empire of Babylon. He was also UNMARRIED. I believe the wise men were of a sect began through the example and instruction of Daniel and he instructed
them to take this gold to Messiah.

Psa 45:6 - Your throne, O-G-d is forever and ever; a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom. You love righteousness and hate wickedness; therefore G-d, your G-d, has annointed you with the oil of gladness more than your companions. All your garments are scented with myrrh and aloes and cassia.

Sol 3:6 - Who is this coming out of the wilderness like pillars of smoke, perfumed with myrrh and frankincense, with all the merchant's fragrant powders? ... Go forth, O daughters of Tzion, and see King Solomon with the crown with which his mother crowned him on the day of his engagement, the day of the gladness of his heart.

These are such great insights. Isn't Hashem good that he provides for everything. Spices that point to the messiah from scriptures of old, and gold to finance their move to Egypt.

            Good work guys!

A few more verses for you:

Exo 30:34 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Take for yourself spices, stacte and onycha and galbanum, spices with pure frankincense; there shall be an equal part of each.
35 "And with it you shall make incense, a perfume, the work of a perfumer, salted, pure, and holy.
36 "And you shall beat some of it very fine, and put part of it before the testimony in the tent of meeting, where I shall meet with you; it shall be most holy to you.

Isa 6:6 "A multitude of camels will cover you, The young camels of Midian and Ephah; All those from Sheba will come; They will bring gold and frankincense, And will bear good news of the praises of the LORD.

              Happy Sabbath all:

Yes, those scriptures are great. Isa 66:6 is millenial, and Sol 3:6 is about the whole House of Yah; but Ps 45:6 is obviously a Messianic Prophecy along with Ex 30:34. Messiah was "beat very fine" (tested thoroughly) and became a sweet savour to his Father.
